This is a painting of my grandfather from his service photo made when when he served in WWI. I have had very good response to the painting and am thinking of a series based on it. The post by Artslice featuring interiors inspired me. The painting is executed in tempera, poster paint, on a gessoed panel. I sprayed the tempera with One-Shot shellac and it kills the chalkiness making the colors pop. I then glazed it with alkyd medium and a bit of oil paint for tint. I'm not sure about the archival quality of the technique but would like to hear any ideas about it.
